The Celestial Bodies & Spheres

Like for so many of us, it seems that events in my life happen in a cluster to create a theme. When we take those precious moments to reflect upon those events, they often become clearer or, in my painters eye, more abstract.

Recently, the celestial bodies were calling and twice I went hiking under the full moon. It was nice to view the mountains and the hills in dimmed or almost no lighting; so different and more poetic than hiking in the daylight. The moonrises were spectacular. The meteor showers made me brave a windy night on a hill to gaze and wonder in amazement. Suddenly awaken in the wee morning hours; the total lunar eclipse was there for me to experience and wonder still.

As this journey unfolds, this new wonderment and the majestic experience of seldom seen celestial events have touched my heart in new ways. Gone is the planning of the painting on value and color study, path of dark and light, and sizes of the forms. My heart and hands choose the size of the canvas, the colors, the brushes… everything!

And as I delve deeper into spirituality; spheres, bubbles and orbs started to appear. In the “Uncharted” (see below), circles and spheres appeared everywhere. They took over the paintings. The movement is still there but the colors of my paintings have become calmer, the movements are gentler.

There is new stillness in my paintings. I trust that this is a journey we all share.
